Stillwater’s Sunrise Rotary has been awarded a Rotary International Presidential Citation for its “service above self.”

Presentation was made by Sunrise President Orwin Carter to Craig Leiser, immediate past-president, for activities carried out during Leiser’s presidency.  The club was cited for:

  • Meeting the Club’s target of five new members inducted during 2006-7,
  • Conducting the annual pre-Halloween Party, during which about 500 younger school children from Stillwater and Oak Park Heights receive “treats” from Boutwell’s Landing seniors each October as a community project,
  • Providing equipment for an Ecuador Medical Center as an international project,
  • Gifting a visual enhancement reading machine to residents of Croixdale in Bayport as a club project,
  • A number of vocational visits as examples of vocational activities.

The citation singled out Sunrise for its efforts in leading the way “to a better future by demonstrating that fellowship and service truly can change the world.”

Sunrise, whose members meet at Joseph’s Restaurant each Tuesday morning, last received the IR Presidential Citation during the presidency of Lynda Halbert in 2005.
