Sunrise Rotary got the 95% full moon its president, Ken McGinley, predicted several weeks ago when he announced the club’s eighth annual “What’s Best for Kids” golf benefit.

Sunrise also held its first moonlight golf tournament.

Thirty Sunrise Rotarians were on the course to mark tees and greens with glow sticks, and to help golfers keep track of glowing golf balls.  Eighty players played nine holes of “best ball” after 8 pm last Friday night.  Nearly twice that many attended an earlier dinner and took part in a silent auction, all at the Stillwater Country Club.

Money raised will be used to fund this year’s Youth Alcohol and Drug Program.  Five goals, developed by a community-wide committee of church representatives, educators, health-care and nonprofit members, parents and business people, were announced at the dinner.  One goal – hiring of an alcohol/drug counselor for Stillwater junior and senior high schools – was implemented at the beginning of the school year.  The new counselor, introduced at the moonlight fund-raiser, is already on the job.
