Peace Through Service was the main message shared by Rotary International District Governor, Joe Kovarik when he visited local club Stillwater Sunrise Rotary this past Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club’s main goal is to improve the lives of others, both locally and globally, through service. Although Peace Through Service is something the club is very familiar with the visit from District Governor Kovarik provided the inspiration the club needs as they start preparing for 2013.

“It is not about how good you are. It is about how good you can be,” shared Kovarik to the club of about 60 community members who meet every Tuesday morning at Joseph’s Restaurant in Stillwater.  Current club president, David Langer says, “We are currently looking at ways to increase membership which in turn will help us expand our reach within the community.”

Locally, the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club is involved in a vast number of service projects throughout the year. They just wrapped up the 11th Annual Halloween Parade at Boutwells Landing, are gearing up for bell ringing for The Salvation Army, and are busy planning for the 7th Annual Brewers Bizarre.  Internationally, the club contributes and supports the End Polio Now Campaign, with a goal to eradicate polio in the world. Other areas of focus include working in areas of poverty throughout the world providing food, water, sanitation, education, and job training through global grants and teaming up with Rotary clubs around the world.

It isn’t common that the club gets a visit from District Governor Kovarik, but they look forward to helping carry out the mission of Peace Through Service.
