Our Club had the pleasure of meeting Raul Jarquin from the Masaya-Nicaragua Rotary Club on Tuesday morning.  Raul was joined by Julietta from Kairos who acted as his interpreter.

District 5960 is working closely with the Masaya Rotary Club on our Fast for Hope initiative.  Raul is past District Governor for Distrito 4240 that covers about 5 countries in Central America.  The purpose of the visit by members of the Masaya Club is for members of our District to gain a greater understanding of Nicaragua and the area where our particular project is occurring.  Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. The country has oceans on two sides and a large lake in the middle. This lake is one of the few that have fresh water sharks.

The Masaya Rotary Club was founded in 1944 and has 15 members, (10 female and 5 male). The club rents out their bell for boxing matches as one way to raise funds.  Raul gave a presentation of Nicaragua showing us the highlights of Masaya.  There are obviously many beautiful sites and people in Nicaragua.  Margie Horning will be the next club member to experience those sites and meeting those people when she travels with the next District Delegation to Nicaragua on May 7th.
