Amethyst Gefre of SAHS earlier this month won $500 in a Rotary two-district ethics essay contest.  She was honored last week at a Sunrise Rotary awards breakfast.

Amethyst’s essay, “Free ... or Stolen?,” tied for third among 145 entries from 28 high schools.  Sponsored by Sunrise, she competed in a contest open to all schools within Rotary Districts 5960 (St. Paul and east) and 5950 (Minneapolis and west).  Judges for the contest, which required students to write original essays on Rotary’s “Four Way Test,” came from Districts 5950, 5960 and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures.

The winning essay was written by Kira Jorgensen Duus, Roseville Area High School.  Matt Phillips, Maple Grove HS, was second, and Kevin Desautels, Jefferson Senior High, Alexandria, MN, was the other tie for third.
