Trick or Treat to End Polio

14th Annual Halloween Parade

On October 28th, 365 children from the Stillwater community braved the cold and rain to come to Boutwell Landing for the 14th Annual Halloween Parade. Our Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club starting this multi-generational tradition back in 2002 and its success continues each year.

Over 160 Boutwell residence handed out candy and treats to the children as they showed off their costumes. In addition, over 50 volunteers, including the Stillwater Area High School Pep Band participated in making this a fun community experience for all involved.

But this is more than just a sugar-fest. Our club raises awareness and money for the eradication of polio. Each child gets their pinky inked in purple as they begin the parade. They learn about the importance of the purple pinky in the fight against polio around the world as their parents drop a few dollars in the bucket.
